Subject: Formal Complaint – Safety Issue, Repeated Repair Failure, and Dealer Negligence (BMW X7) To Whom It May Concern, I am filing a formal complaint regarding a serious and ongoing safety issue involving my BMW X7 (VIN: [XXX] ), as well as repeated failure by an authorized BMW dealership (Fields BMW Winter Park, Florida) to properly diagnose and repair the vehicle. Since purchase, the vehicle has exhibited a persistent defect involving both rear tires losing air on a daily basis. This condition requires constant manual refilling and repeatedly triggers warning alerts on the vehicle dashboard. Despite bringing the vehicle to the dealership no fewer than five times for the exact same issue, the problem remains unresolved. This represents a clear failure to repair a recurring defect, and more importantly, a potential safety hazard, as tire pressure instability directly affects vehicle control and operational safety. Additionally, during a recent service visit, the vehicle was returned in worse condition than when it was delivered: The tire issue was not resolved; The tires were returned underinflated; A check engine light was activated, which was not present prior to service. This raises serious concerns regarding both the technical competence of the service provider and the adequacy of post-service quality control procedures. Separately, I previously owned a BMW X6 (VIN: [XXX] ), purchased at the same time, which also experienced service-related issues. Due to the overall pattern of poor service and lack of resolution, I have already replaced that vehicle with a Mercedes-Benz. At this stage, I have lost confidence in both the dealership and the manufacturer’s ability to ensure safe and reliable operation of the vehicle. Key concerns for this complaint include: Repeated failure to repair a known defect; Ongoing safety risk related to tire pressure loss; Vehicle returned in unsafe condition after service; Lack of responsiveness and resolution f INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2026 BMW X7. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal water shifting around inside the vehicle. The contact stated that the message “Service Immediately” was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the contact was informed that the failure was an unknown failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The contact was informed that an inspector needed to inspect the vehicle. The contact was informed that the failure was a defect from manufacturing. Additionally, the contact received an unknown alert on the BMW App, which indicated that a recall was initiated for the improper installation of the front windshield. The contact stated that the alert indicated that the failure could cause mold and electrical failures. The contact stated that the dealer later informed the contact that the manufacturer denied the repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 2,400.

Latches/Locks/Linkages04/10/2026

The front passenger side door is unable to open from inside or outside the vehicle. The door actuator failed, and this has been confirmed by the dealer. This is an obvious safety issue as it prevents egress in an emergency. According to Internet forums, this seems to be a known issue across BMW platforms.

Unknown Or Other04/04/2026

I was driving my 2025 X7 and the sunroof unexpectedly and spontaneously exploded above my head. I had left my house about 2 minutes prior, driving 40 mph on street near my home. I was in the middle lane of a 6-lane wide street, no car ahead of me and no cars to the side or behind me. Nothing hit my car at all. The glass from the sunroof shattered leaving a large hole, and glass was caught in the sun shade as I had it closed. Had the sun shade been open, I would’ve had glass explode in my face while driving, putting my life in danger. I also have 3 children in car seats who thankfully were not present during the incident. BMW will not acknowledge that this is a defect in the manufacturing or design and are essentially gaslighting me saying a rock hit my car. Again, no car ahead of me in the 100 yards I could see ahead that would suggest anything hit my car. No warnings from the car at all, just spontaneous glass explosion above my head. This is a design flaw at BMW that must be addressed before it kills someone.

Power Train02/26/2026

The contact owns a 2026 BMW X7. The contact stated that there was fluid underneath the vehicle, and the dealer was contacted for assistance since the vehicle was brand new. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that there was a failure with the front differential. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 678.

Forward Collision Avoidance /Lane DepartureCRASH01/29/2026

While driving under normal conditions, the Lane Keep Assist system on my 2025 BMW Alpina XB7 unexpectedly and violently jerked the steering wheel without driver input. The sudden steering intervention caused the vehicle to abruptly change direction and strike a curb, resulting in a loss-of-control event. This occurred without warning and could have resulted in a serious crash involving other vehicles, pedestrians, or roadside obstacles. Additionally, the adaptive cruise control system has repeatedly applied sudden and aggressive braking without an apparent reason or obstacle present. These abrupt braking events create a significant risk of a rear-end collision, as following vehicles are not anticipating such sudden deceleration. These issues involve advanced driver-assistance safety systems that are intended to enhance control and safety. Instead, they are operating in a manner that overrides driver input and introduces unsafe driving conditions. The servicing dealership acknowledged the issues and advised me not to use the Lane Keep Assist and cruise control features. Being instructed to disable safety systems due to unsafe behavior is unacceptable and does not resolve the underlying defect. Given the loss-of-control incident and the ongoing unpredictable braking behavior, I believe these defects present a serious safety risk to vehicle occupants and the public.

Electrical System /Fuel/Propulsion System12/04/2025

On November 26, 2025, my 2025 BMW XM experienced complete drivetrain failure while my wife and two children were in a Kansas City parking lot. The vehicle displayed "drivetrain malfunction," would not engage any gear, and was completely inoperable. They were stranded in an unsafe area for 40 minutes awaiting a flatbed tow truck—the only option for this 6,100 lb hybrid. At Baron BMW (Invoice #696591), diagnostics found fault codes 032B51, BA092C, BA09B8, BA0A45, BA0023—all related to the Electric Motor Electronics (EME) module. BMW's test plans indicated EME replacement was needed. However, BMW engineering (TSARA Case #4548336) instructed the dealer to simply CLEAR THE CODES and release the vehicle if faults didn't return after two drive cycles. NO PARTS REPLACED. NO SOFTWARE UPDATED. NO ROOT CAUSE IDENTIFIED. BMW erased the diagnostic evidence without fixing anything. Their own system flagged a critical component for replacement, yet the "fix" was deleting the fault codes. SAFETY CONCERNS: 1) Complete propulsion loss strands occupants in dangerous locations 2) 6,100 lb vehicle losing power in traffic creates collision risk 3) Cannot be conventionally towed, limiting recovery options (i.e. parking garages, parallel parked on a hill, etc..) 4) No root cause fix means repeat failures likely This defect poses unreasonable risk. BMW's failure to correct the underlying issue despite flagging a critical component suggests a systemic software problem in the XM hybrid drivetrain. Request NHTSA investigate this defect pattern.

Wheels12/01/2025

Purchased 2024 XM in July 2024. Since then all 4 rims have cracked. Quote by BMW to replace $2500. If replaced I would have paid 10k in a year to replace wheels plus the 3k spent in May and June 2025 for a set of new tires. This week my PSI was zero. I could hear the air coming out. Took XM to a tire shop to find out nothing was wrong. The tire was fine and the previously repaired crack was fine. The shop added air and it held. Then the next day, I could hear air seeping from another tire. My husband drove it around the subdivision and came back home to add air. The seeping had stopped. There’s not a week that I’m not adding air to the tires. I keep a compressor in my XM, whereas last week I had to inflate the tires after work twice. The tire shop unbiased opinion is that, there’s a flaw in the design such that, the wheels are too big for 23” tires, with inadequate spacing between the two. The shop that repairs the rims charges $195. As a women Driving this vehicle, it gives me anxiety because I feel its unsafe to drive not knowing if an unsuspecting crack will cause the vehicle to become disabled or if a tire would blow, causing loss of control. If BMW maintains historical data on tire conditions, you will see how often, sometimes daily or weekly, that the PSI is low. BMW has to know about this flaw, as forums on bimmers, Facebook and Reddit have many discussions. For a 160k vehicle BMW should own the issue and cover replacement cost for new rims.

Transfer case and front and rear differentials have failed - bmw claims lifetime fluid which is clearly not accurate

Power Train10/29/2025

Description of the Problem: At ~57,000 miles, the front differential on my 2025 BMW X7 M50i failed and was replaced by an authorized dealer in March 2025. The issue was believed resolved, but in October 2025 the vehicle was returned to Advantage BMW because of a question about when the vehicle showing shuttering, vibration, and binding during low-speed turns. The car has been at the BMW dealership since 10/15/2025, where it was diagnosed with a transfer-case failure. Both failures occurred without any warning lights, messages, or diagnostic alerts. The symptoms were only mechanical noise (front differential) and driveline vibration (transfer case). The dealer confirmed that BMW issued Service Bulletin SIB 27 02 20, describing similar transfer-case/driveline malfunctions. The failed components are available for inspection. This issue poses a safety hazard, as the xDrive AWD system controls traction and stability. Sudden drivetrain failure without warning can cause loss of power distribution between axles and loss of control during acceleration, turning, or highway driving. Multiple owners have reported identical failures on the BimmerPost G07 X7 forum (https://g07.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2011112), indicating a broader defect pattern. Summary: Two major drivetrain components—the front differential and transfer case—have failed on my 2025 BMW X7 M50i under 60,000 miles with no warning indicators. The vehicle has been out of service since 10/15/2025. Given BMW’s acknowledgment in SIB 27 02 20 and widespread owner reports, this represents a potential safety-related defect requiring investigation.

Wheels10/28/2025

The contact owns a 2024 BMW XM. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH, the low tire pressure warning light illuminated. Roadside Assistance towed the vehicle to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the front driver’s and passenger’s rims were cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but four months later, the rear passenger’s and driver’s rims cracked. The vehicle was towed back to the same dealer, where it was determined that the rims were cracked. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,000.

Exterior Lighting10/03/2025

The contact owns a 2026 BMW X7. The contact stated that while driving at night, the front driver’s side headlight projected a dark shadow. The contact stated that the further the vehicle was away from an object, the greater the dark shadow was cast. The contact stated that the closer the headlight was to an object, the dark shadow was smaller. The contact stated that the failure obstructed the vision of the left side of the roadway while driving at night. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the headlight failure was acknowledged. However, the dealer had not yet determined a cause or a repair for the defect. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle remained with the dealer. The failure mileage was 2,914
